LANAP® Laser Treatment

LANAP®: Advanced Periodontal Treatment in Fort Walton Beach, FL
In traditional treatment for advanced periodontal (gum) disease, a surgeon uses a scalpel to remove diseased tissue, exposing the tooth roots and bone. After cleaning the roots and reshaping the bone, a bone graft may be performed, and the gums are sutured back in place. This procedure is known as Excisional New Attachment Procedure (ENAP), which can result in a lengthy and uncomfortable healing process due to its invasive nature.
At Coastal Periodontics, we offer an alternative restorative dental care option. Our Laser-assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP®) provides a painless and effective treatment for periodontal disease in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
LANAP® Laser Treatment Procedure in Fort Walton Beach, FL
- Gum disease (periodontitis)
- Gum recession
- Gum inflammation
- Infected and detached gum pockets
- Bone loss in the jaw
- Shifting or loose teeth
We do not completely remove your gum tissue, or require bone grafting. This painless dental procedure stimulates bone and tissue regeneration. Your gums will heal and reattach to the teeth quicker.
LANAP is less painful and has a faster recovery time versus traditional gum surgery. This minimally-invasive technique causes little bleeding. The laser reduces healing time and discomfort, and avoids the need for stitches. Additionally, LANAP has long-lasting results, improving overall oral health and reducing the risk of long-term tooth loss.
Treatment Process
The LANAP® procedure begins with the dentist administering local anesthetic to numb the treatment area. We will ensure your comfort throughout the entire process. We will not harm your healthy soft tissue, and make sure you are comfortable to alleviate any dental anxiety.
Next, our dentist will take pocket measurements. We will use a probe to measure the depth of the pockets around your affected teeth. The depth indicates the severity of the gum disease.
Then we will use laser tools to target and remove the infected gum tissue and bacteria from the pockets. The laser will also stimulate the growth of healthy gum tissue and promote the healing process.
After the laser therapy, our dentist may use tools to remove any remaining plaque and tartar from the gum line. Scaling and root planing helps further eliminate bacteria and create a clean environment for the gums to heal. Lastly, we may make adjustments to your bite to ensure that the teeth come together properly and reduce stress on the gums.
We will provide patients with instructions on how to care for their gums following the LANAP® procedure. Instructions will including proper oral hygiene practices and may include any necessary medications. Over time, the gums will begin to heal and reattach to your teeth. Regular follow-up appointments will be necessary to monitor progress and ensure long-term success.
